Current Status (6/18/12):

Excuse the mess and clutter, I grow fish food in tupperwares on the table ;)

Space: I live in a tiny 1 bed apartment with a disproportionately large balcony  It's in downtown Miami, on the 35th floor, facing north, no direct light. Keeping this thread to track the progression (and regression when I get lazy) of the balcony space.

I would trade this space for a backyard in a heartbeat, but it's got a decent view at night, especially when it's stormy:

Current Plants:
- 24g Planter with aquatic plants and some fish
- Honeysuckle Vine x2
- Star Jasmine Vine x1 (1 died last year :()
- Mystery Vine (from a Love Pod seed)
- Grand Duke Jasmine
- Hawaiian Ti
- Red Foliage Plant (forget the name)
- Gardenia

Edible
- Cayenne Peppers
- Habanero Peppers
- Jalapeno Peppers
- Sweet Peppers
- Swiss Chards
- Rosemary
- Cilantro, Culantro, Basil, Chocolate Mint
- Japanese Eggplant

Removed:
- Cherry tomatoes, too low-yield in indirect light
- Bok choy, VERY prone to aphids infestation, kept blooming and died off
- Spinach, began flowering and died off as weather got hotter

A few edibles I'm trying this year:

Tomatoes

Peppers

Bokchoy

Spinach

Eggplant still flowering

Strawberry not fully formed yet

Swiss chards, these grow like weeds year round! Wish they weren't so bitter.

Looking to grow some myself on the balcony, what was the easiest plant for you? Prefer drought tolerant when I forget to water :D

My swiss chards grow like weeds, tomatoes aren't too bad easier but prefer more sun.

Sweet peppers are easy to grow too.

I yanked out all the old tomatoes, using a grape tomato variety now, grew from seeds to this in a month:
